Kari Stoltenberg primarily works on paper. In the past, she had created a cosmology of forms that made personal and social commentary. Her recent works focuses on spontaneous expression. She uses color pastels and chucks on paper. She writes: “My art begins with thoughts which are then shaped into abstract forms with color and line. These forms become my interpretation of our society’s needs, wants, and regrets. I don’t make art for pleasure. My hope is that it engages in society as it is and that perhaps helps create a society that can be at peace with itself. It is important to me to title my artworks. Naming it gives it a purpose or maybe a way of thinking about it.”

Stoltenberg taught at the Conservatory for Creative Expression at the University of Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She has exhibited in Wisconsin and Washington, and was a recipient of several Wisconsin art awards. She lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
