Approximately 100 of the most prestigious masterpieces of this universally recognized Chilean artist will be on display at the exhibition Matta: Centenario 11-11-11 at the Cultural Center Palacio La Moneda, the central landmark for the centennial celebrations of Roberto Matta. The co-curators of this exhibition composed of independent curator Inés Ortega – Marquez and the team at Cultural Center Palacio La Moneda, are offering a chronological journey through the varying stages and facets of Matta’s creativity, presenting a selection of his most valuable artistic works and pieces most representative of each of his creative periods from 1937 until 2002, the year of his death. Through Matta’s most emblematic works, the exhibition demonstrates a current of deeper issues ranging from the processes of the mind and consciousness of human beings to the ravages of war and the artist’s commitment to social conflicts.
